“Young cellist with personality”
“The performances to be heard at the concert last Sunday can justly be described as quite remarkable: the 19 year old cellist Valentin Radutiu [...] played Bach's C major Solo Suite and, together with the Munich Chamber Philharmonic, the demanding Cello Concerto in C by Haydn. In the solo suite, Radutiu gave very much an individual interpretation of the movements, and set great store by fashioning passages charged with tension. His clear phrasing in the Courante was matched by full-sounding double-stops in the first Bourrée and by crisply enunciated figures in the vigorous Gigue.
The cellist clearly led the chamber orchestra, which was playing without a conductor, and he displayed a fine and perfectly pitched tone as well as great sensitivity in the brisk Prelude. In the Adagio he conjured up long notes out of nothing and transformed them into arching melodic lines of great mellifluousness, before launching into the closing Allegro brilliantly and with great impetus.”

Süddeutsche Zeitung, Klaus Möhr

“Artistry knows no age”,
“... Probably the most complete artist of the evening was the Munich-born cellist Valentin Radutiu. With a strong, brilliant tone, incredible rhythmic precision and unerring purity of pitch, as though his cello had frets on the fingerboard, he delivered his master stroke with Paganini's “Moses” Variations - carrying it off with consummate ease as though it were only a bagatelle. That's exactly what distinguishes great musicianship.”

“Intellectual superiority and musical command”
Crescendo – das Klassikmagazin, Dr. Harald Eggebrecht

“Radutiu showed in the final that he possesses great powers of artistic persuasion. This is especially true of his prodigious instrumental playing as well as of his talent to communicate the works in question to the audience in a multi-faceted way beyond his playing.”

“A particular highlight of the Landsberg concert was the encounter with the cellist Valentin Radutiu. For the multiple prize-winner [...], even such an exacting work as the C major Concerto of Joseph Haydn seemed to present no technical difficulties. Effortlessly he mastered the at times extreme changes of register, and at no point did virtuosity come to the fore as an end in itself. Instead, virtuosity remained a means of expression for Radutiu, helping to bring a spirit of joyous freshness and a bravura elegance especially to the outer movements. Also glorious was the sonorous song-like quality with which the soloist imbued the Adagio.”
Landsberger Zeitung, Jörg Riedlbauer

“Impressive young soloists”,
“While many performers would have us believe that Haydn's music is staid and persistently cheerful, that, very audibly, is a view which Radutiu does not share. It would be nice to hear works of Haydn played much more often in this manner – so modern, so eruptive, so new. It would finally put an end to people referring to the composer as ‘Papa Haydn’.”

Süddeutsche Zeitung, Dorothea Friedrich

“In the final competition round, which was accompanied by the MDR symphony orchestra in Leipzig, Valentin Radutiu specifically convinced by his outstanding interpretation of the cello concert in D major by Joseph Haydn and by his ingenious verbal contributions.”
